About Me

I’m Angie Plager.  My life changed on Aug 23rd, 2003 when I was paralyzed in a car accident.  I had a C5 spinal cord injury that left me a tetraplegic/quadriplegic.  I lost all feeling from my sternum down, as well as, partial loss of arm mobility and total loss of finger and hand mobility.  Life altered completely, but I try not to let that slow me down.  I try to live life to the fullest and help others do the same.  I am a former Ms Wheelchair Iowa 2009.  I am an advocate for persons with disabilities and president of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Iowa.  I have lobbied on local and nation capital hills.  I am constantly volunteering and working.  Some examples include being a local ambassador for Easter Seals, working for VGM Group Inc/People for Quality Care, helping plan my home town’s yearly festival, being in Toastmasters, busy in my church, and maintaining a home business selling Mary Kay for over 10 years.
Admittedly, I have a thrill seeking bone in my body (good thing I didn’t break that one!).  As a quad, I have gone paragliding, waterskiing, deer hunting, and taken rides on motorcycles and a helicopter.  Skydiving and bungie jumping here I come soon (hopefully).  You can’t let life pass you by just because you are in a chair.
